The silence between the notes

In every interaction there are gaps or momentary lulls in the mix and the way those gaps are experienced show the level of the relationship between the people interacting, for in that gap a sense of serenity and togetherness may arise as well as a sense of awkwardness which triggers (or rather reveals) anxiety whereby people feel compelled to fill in the gap either by overextending (pleasing, humoring, in some way entertaining the other) or by recoiling and shutting down in that pivotal moment. The ideal context of an interaction is total openness where everybody feels safe and un-judged which contributes to an experience of coming together rather than one of falling farther apart. Once you have established a solid grounded presence the challenge becomes to leverage the pressure others impose on themselves in the vicinity of these gaps and transform that anxiety into the infectious tranquility you are transmitting
